AGAHE and WHH in collaboration with PSPA organized a learning exchange visit

AGAHE and WHH in collaboration with PSPA organized a learning exchange visit to its climate resilient and sustainable innovative WASH Models in Muzaffargarh. Senior Officers from PSPA and PMDFC from different districts of Punjab visited two key projects: Coin Vending Machine and SCADA operated solarized Water Filtration Plant in Basti Khari and a community-led Sewage Treatment Unit in Basti Mondaka. Both projects were developed after detailed technical and social studies, ensuring community participation for long-term sustainability. The Water Filtration Plant model features a tariff collection mechanism through coin vending machine, allowing residents to access clean water at 50 paisa per liter, promoting water conservation while generating revenue. The community’s active involvement, from inception to operation, was evident as they proudly shared their journey with the visiting officials.
Mr. Waqas Tahir (Manager WASH AGAHE) with team facilitated the visit. He paid thanks for the technical inputs by PSPA to design and develop these models and also appreciated the endeavors by the authority and PMDFC for provision of clean water and safely managed sanitation in the province. Mr. Shahnawaz Arif (Advocacy Coordinator WHH) paid gratitude for collaboration to improve the equitability and sustainability of the services.
As Chief Guest Mr. Aamir Khaleeq DG Projects PSPA extended the closing remarks as and commended the efforts and contribution by AGAHE and WHH for advancing WASH systems in Punjab. He shared that PSPA will integrate these models considering the potential of replication across Punjab to ease the public sector’s financial burden. He appreciated the community’s willingness to pay the tariff, aligning with Islamic principles of shared responsibility. He also praised the involvement of local women, emphasizing that Islam has always upheld the dignity, respect, and importance of women in building strong, stable societies. He further stressed that these projects not only provide clean water but also reflect Islamic values of environmental stewardship, community cohesion, inclusive and sustainable development.
