AGAHE and Welthungerhilfe (WHH), in collaboration with the Punjab Rural Municipal Services Company (PRMSC) and the Punjab Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), organized a Learning Exchange Visit in Muzaffargarh to showcase climate-resilient and sustainable WASH models. Senior officials from PRMSC and PHED, representing various districts of Punjab, visited the Coin Vending Machine and SCADA-Operated Solarized Water Filtration Plant in Basti Khari and a Community-Led Sewage Treatment Unit in Basti Mondaka.
Mr. Waqas Tahir, Manager WASH, AGAHE, acknowledged PRMSC’s technical support in model development and the commitment of PRMSC and PHED to improving WASH services in Punjab. Mr. Mian Hamidullah, WASH Sector Advisor, WHH, appreciated the collaboration in strengthening equitable and sustainable WASH services and commended government efforts in innovative sanitation solutions.
Mr. Asadullah, CEO PRMSC, inaugurated the Water Filtration Plant and praised the tariff collection system and community-driven approach, recognizing their scalability. He emphasized PRMSC’s plan to replicate these models across Punjab, reducing the public sector’s financial burden while ensuring sustainability. He also lauded community contributions, aligning with Islamic principles of shared responsibility, and highlighted the key role of women in strengthening communities.
Mr. Naqi Iqbal, Chief Infrastructure Development, PRMSC, termed the visit a valuable learning opportunity for PRMSC officials to integrate these innovations. Mr. Tariq Mehmood, Deputy Director, CD Unit, PHED Lahore, assured PHED’s support in upscaling these models across Punjab.
AGAHE and WHH remain committed to enhancing WASH systems through sustainable, climate-resilient solutions, contributing to SDG 6 goals.
